Krishnayan is the brainchild of Mrs. Krishna Lal, who has spent over fifty years in the field of decorative arts and textiles. She retired as Keeper, Decorative Arts and Textiles, at the National Museum, New Delhi where she served for over three decades. Mrs. Lal has been an advisor to the Cultural Archives of the Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts, and has completed several other projects including projects for the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She is currently busy documenting the personal collection of textiles of the famous Indian social reformer and freedom fighter Smt. Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay.
